The Weihnachtsoratorium was composed in 1734 and originally performed over six days through the Christmas period. It tells the story of the birth of Christ through vivid, joyful and dramatic music. Recognised as one of Bach’s choral masterpieces, it is a classical seasonal favourite. BachWerk will perform cantatas 1, 2, 3 and 6.

BachWerk and the Brussels Chamber Ensemble perform Dixit Dominus by George Friederick Handel, an extraordinary piece of music written in 1707 when he was living in Italy. Also on the programme, the lesser known and wonderful Dixit Dominus by Marianna von Martines, a baroque composer to discover. And Spring from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
